As part of City Ports, a European funded regional project, a distribution system for the city of Vienna was developed and a pilot implemented, for the efficient delivery in the B2B segment in urban areas. The system is characterized by a series of smaller, cost-effective and rapidly deployable centers to facilitate bundling. Parcels were delivered from and to center located closest to the shipper or the receiver of the goods.  Relocation of parcels between receiving and delivering depot was performed by a regular truck service, to guarantee delivery of the consignment within 24 hours. These small, often container based local distribution centers

PARADIGMA  was responsible to select the optimal location of these cross-docking centers, to organize the business processes and to build a prototype for the supporting IT systems. The solution developed to support this service comprised order entry, bar code printing, route planning, dispatching and invoicing.
